Along with his faux search for buried treasure in an
old Al Capone vault (that held an empty wine bottle)
and his hilarious interview with Charles Manson
(in which Charlie completely humiliated Geraldo),
this stands out as Rivera's most infamous moment.
The show starts by introducing the "skinheads":
John Metzger (son of Tom and leader of White Aryan Resistance),
Bob Heick (from the "American Front"
racialist movement) &
Michael Palasch (from the "Skinheads of National Resistance").
Later in the broadcast, two opposing viewpoints are introduced:
Roy Innis (from the "Congress for Racial Equality") &
Rabbi Bruce Goldman (from the "Center for Jewish Living").
The discussion gets especially heated after a few minutes,
and Metzger makes a statement about being sick of hearing
"the sob story from Kikes" and watching "Uncle Tom over here
trying to be a white man". At that point, Innis stands up
and
approaches Metzger, saying "youve gotta be kidding" angrily, and
then he starts to throttle Metzger. This is when all hell
breaks lose,
and the entire audience erupts into a large fight. A chair flies,
hitting Geraldo right in the mug and breaking his nose nicely.
After that, the "racist skinheads" are cleared out of the audience
and blamed for the showdown, even though the tape clearly shows
that Innis started the fight (with Geraldo's clear approval, saying
"go ahead, Roy" as he stands and approaches Metzger).
Afterwards,
Geraldo says "I agree, the Kike comment was just too much", even
though it was also obvious that "Uncle Tom" is what set Innis off.
But Geraldo (being of Puerto Rican/Jewish heritage) personally took
offense at the Kike remark, and so attributed Innis' actions to
that.
(a few weeks before this program, on the Morton Downey Show,
Innis had pushed Al Sharpton so hard that he toppled from his chair,
so he obviously has a history of being an overbearing immature bully
whether the subject is race or not. No wonder his son is a
Republican,
and no wonder hypocritical Geraldo ended up a Fox News poster boy.)
Here is the complete program in 7 segments.
